Topological Conjugacy and Transitivity for a Class of Piecewise Monotone Maps of the Interval

چکیده
We say that a continuous map / of a compact interval to itself is linear Markov if it is piecewise linear, and the set of all fk(x), where k > 0 and x is an endpoint of a linear piece, is finite. We provide an effective classification, up to topological conjugacy, for linear Markov maps and an effective procedure for determining whether such a map is transitive. We also consider expanding Markov maps, partly to motivate the proof of the more complicated linear Markov case.

Topological Transitivity and Strong Transitivity
We discuss the relation between (topological) transitivity and strong transitivity of dynamical systems. We show that a transitive and open self-map of a compact metric space satisfying a certain expanding condition is strongly transitive. We also prove a couple of results for interval maps; for example it is shown that a transitive piecewise monotone interval map is strongly transitive.
متن کاملSemiconjugacy to a Map of a Constant Slope
It is well known that a continuous piecewise monotone interval map with positive topological entropy is semiconjugate to a map of a constant slope and the same entropy, and if it is additionally transitive then this semiconjugacy is actually a conjugacy. We generalize this result to piecewise continuous piecewise monotone interval maps, and as a consequence, get it also for piecewise monotone g...
متن کاملConjugacy between trapezoid maps
Trapezoid maps are a kind of continuous and piecewise linear maps with a flat top. By the conjugacy relationship, we present a complete classification for four families of trapezoid maps. Firstly, using an extension method, we construct all homeomorphic solutions of conjugacy equation φ ◦ f = g ◦ φ for some non-monotone continuous maps f and g. Secondly, using an iterative construction method a...
متن کاملCounting Preimages
For noninvertible maps, mainly subshifts of finite type and piecewise monotone interval maps, we investigate what happens if we follow backward trajectories, random in the sense that at each step every preimage can be chosen with equal probability. In particular, we ask what happens if we try to compute the entropy this way. It tuns out that instead of the topological entropy we get the metric ...
متن کاملOn Uniqueness of Conjugacy of Continuous and Piecewise Monotone Functions
Let I a, b , J c, d be closed, bounded, and nondegenerate i.e., neither of them consists of a single point real intervals, and let f : I → I, F : J → J be continuous functions. The aim of this paper is to discuss, under some additional assumptions on the maps f and F, the problem of topological conjugacy of f and F. More precisely, we investigate the existence and uniqueness of solutions φ : I ...
